Welcome to the 1920's! Otherwise known as the ROARING TWENTIES-an age of dramatic social and political change. It developed directly after World War I America’s wealth more than doubled in this era between 1920 and 1929. All of this wealth gave birth to a “consumer society” where people sought an influx of luxuries. People also began listening to the same music and speaking in the same sort of slang. Jazz music and Dance halls became extremely popular. The young people of America spent their nights in cities partying away. Although these roaring twenties brought prosperity and cultural advancement, many people do not know about the negative political and social unrest and reaction. Along with the urbanism and increased social activity came the introduction of the klu klux klan, prohibition, and Nativism. Many individuals were partying their nights away and living their lives, while some were living is distress.

In summary, The 1920's was a decade of exciting social changes and profound cultural conflicts. For many Americans, the growth of cities, the rise of a consumer culture, the upsurge of mass entertainment, represented transcending from the restrictions of the country's past. Gender roles, hair styles, and clothing all changed profoundly during the 1920's. But for many others, the United States seemed to be changing in undesirable ways. The result was an unofficial "cultural civil war," in which issues such as foreign immigration, evolution, the Ku Klux Klan, prohibition, women’s rights were all major concerns in society at the time.
For those who were piqued by this era and want to know more. I suggest that you read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
