The Roaring Twenties was an age of dramatic social and political change. The roaring twenties were marked after World War 1. Drastic changes for women and their rights and freedom became known throughout. Women's clothing was formed into a modern style of dress. In the 1920's this was a very dramatic age and time period because of all of the change not only socially but politically. More Americans lived in cities than farms for once and the nation's wealth doubled between 1920 and 1929. The economic growth swept many Americans into an unfamiliar “consumer society.”

Pop culture during the 1920's was characterized by the flapper, automobiles, nightclubs, movies, and jazz. Life moved fast as a new sense of prosperity and freedom emerged at the end of World War I. Products were manufactured in mass-produced packaging. Billboards popped up all over the cities.

Flappers were a generation of young Western women in the 1920's who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behavior. Flappers were northern, urban, single, young, middle-class women. Many held steady jobs in the changing American economy. The clerking jobs that blossomed in the Gilded Age were more numerous than ever. Increasing phone usage required more and more operators. The consumer-oriented economy of the 1920;s saw a burgeoning number of department stores. Women were needed on the sales floor to relate to the most precious customers — other women. But the flapper was not all work and no play.
Flappers of the 1920s were young women known for their energetic freedom, embracing a lifestyle viewed by many at the time as outrageous, immoral or downright dangerous. Now considered the first generation of independent American women, flappers pushed barriers in economic, political and sexual freedom for women.

Airplanes: Flight technology advanced significantly during WW1. The airline industry received a boost in the Roaring Twenties with the passage of the 1926 Air Commerce Act which provided government aid for building new airports. The emerging aircraft industry produced 4600 American airplanes in 1928 and passenger terminals were built.
