World Lit- Latin America- 10th Grade- Mrs. Enix- 2014-2015

Introduction

Students will use the questions posed in the webquest to take a self-guided internet learning about this area of the world. Students will work in teacher selected groups of three to complete this process.  Each student will submit his/her own answers to the questions they have learned in regards to Latin American living, religion, education, and authors.

Process

Day: 1

Latin American Life

1) What countries are considered part of Latin America?

2) What are the languages of Latin America?

3) What types of schooling would a child consider or be afforded in Latin America?

4) Pick three countries of interest in Latin America and state what types of foods they enjoy eating or creating.

5) Using the same three countries, what types of music do they listen to in those areas?

6) Still using the same countries, what types of games do they play?

7) Use Guatemala as your source.  What is the poverty rate?  What is the unemployment rate?  How many homeless are in this city?  What is its major industry?

8) Pick a major country, not Chile, within Latin America.  What types of tourist attractions or places to visit does it have?  What is it famous for having/doing?

9) Look up what types of festivals take place in the country of Chile.  List at least three if possible. 

Part 2

1) Pick one country and discuss what type of government they have.  Democracy? etc.  

2) How are women treated in this country?

3) If you are accused of a crime, what happens to you?  What is the process?

4) Incan, Mayan, or Aztec.  Find one interesting thing about these ancient cultures.

5) Choose a Latin American author.  Give a brief bio of this author.
