Reducing Plastic Waste in Our Community

Introduction

Every day, millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans and landfills. This not only harms marine life but also affects human health and our environment. In this activity, you will become “eco-detectives,” investigating the impact of plastic waste and designing practical solutions to reduce it in your school and community.

Task

Your task is to create a campaign plan to raise awareness about plastic waste reduction. By the end of this activity, you and your group will produce:

  1. A poster or infographic showing the impact of plastic waste.

  2. A short action plan with at least 3 strategies your school or community can adopt.

  3. A presentation to share your findings with the class.

Process

1. Form groups of 3–4 students.

2. Assign roles: researcher, writer, designer, and presenter.

3. Read the provided articles and websites to gather information about plastic waste.

4. Discuss and decide which facts, images, or examples will go into your poster/infographic.

5. Write your group’s action plan (at least one page).

6. Prepare a short group presentation (5–7 minutes) to share your poster and action plan with the class.

Evaluation
Criteria Excellent (3) Satisfactory (2) Needs Improvement (1)
Content Accuracy All facts are accurate, complete, and well-explained Mostly accurate, with minor gaps Many errors or missing details
Creativity & Design Poster/infographic is original, clear, and engaging Some creativity; fairly clear Lacks creativity or is difficult to understand
Action Plan Clear, realistic, and includes 3+ strong strategies Contains 2–3 strategies but needs more detail Vague or unrealistic strategies
Teamwork & Presentation All members contribute; presentation is engaging and clear Most members participate; fairly clear Limited participation; presentation unclear
Conclusion

Through this WebQuest, you explored the urgent issue of plastic waste and learned how individuals and communities can take action. You not only discovered facts but also worked collaboratively to propose solutions. As you reflect on this activity, think about how your personal habits affect the environment and how small changes can lead to big impacts.
