Reading Fables and Folktales from Diverse Cultures

Introduction

In this web quest you will be learning and studying about fables and folktales from various diverse cultures. You will read different versions of the Cinderella story and other fables and folktales. You will be able to write your own Cinderella story. You will be able to write an opinion piece where you will introduce the topic about the fables and folktales you have read, state your opinion, supply reasons that support your opinion.

While you are reading the fables and folktales pick two people to take notes on the tales. You need to take note of the central message, the lesson it is teaching you, and the moral of the tale. Take notes on who the characters are, the setting and anything you think is important or need to remember about the tale. Pick two people to read the tales. Switch people with each tale. Make sure everyone in the group is having a turn and participating.

The big essential question is; What is the moral of the Fable or Folktale? Make sure to write it down in your notes for each fable or folktale.

Task

The problem to be solved is to find the lesson or moral of the fables or folktales. To gather information that is important to the tale like the characters and setting.

The position to be formulated and defended would be to form your opinion of the tale and to note your reasons why you think this way.

You are to design your own Cinderella fable which would include a lesson or moral, characters and a setting and other details that would tell the story for readers. You are also to form an opinion piece as to why you have that opinion of one of the tales and why you think this way.

Your tales are to be analyzed for the lesson or moral they are trying to teach the reader. Because they are diverse culturally they may be more complex to interpret.

In your opinion piece you will use linking words such as because and also and connect the reasons why you think this way to include a concluding statement.

In the Cinderella tale you will create, you will put personal insight and a persuasive message (lesson or moral) in an original piece of work as a group.
