Introduction
Hello reading detectives!
Today your task will be to listen and read a story and do the activities in this webquest.
You are lucky because you can listen to the story as many times as you need!
You will have 2 lessons to complete all the activities so make sure you use your time well. In the third class we will present our book reports to our class mates.
Task
1. Read the instructions from the beginning to the end.
2. Prediction
BEFORE you start to watch and listen to the story write 1 sentence of what you think the story 'Clark the Shark' is about. E.g. 'I think the story is about a dog that goes to the supermarket', or 'I think the story is about two girls that go swimming in a swimming pool'.
2. Watch and Listen
Watch and listen to the story: Clark the Shark by Bruce Hale. You can turn on the subtitles by clicking on the button at the bottom of the screen if you want to.
3. Repeat and Write
Now watch the story again BUT have your notebook and pencil ready. You are going to write down all the words you don't know in a column at the left hand side of the page (leave a line in between each word). Don't worry if you have 5 or 50.
4. Using the Context
Sometimes we (even adults!) have to use the context of the situation to understand the meaning of a word.
Choose 5 words from your list of words you don't know and using the context of the story try to guess what the words mean.
**There are no wrong answers here! The most important thing is that you guess an answer using the story to help you.**
Write a definition for the 5 words you have chosen. For example: Balloon - a game you play at a birthday party
5. Use the dictionary
Do an online dictionary search to find the meaning for each of the 5 words you chose.
You can go to the online Cambridge Dictionary to find the meanings.
6. Write the definitions
In your notebook write the meaning of each of the 5 words you chose. Put a green circle next to the definitions that are the same as your own, an orange circle if your definition was similar and a red circle if your definition was completely different.
**REMEMBER - you won't lose marks if your definition is wrong - the most important thing is that you make your own definition!
7. Revision and review
Now you need to answer some questions and review the book.
Instructions
The format of the book review is your choice but you need to answer all of the questions below. Some examples of how to present your book review could be:
- A short video (you will need to prepare what you want to say beforehand).
