Wakko's Universe

Objective: To discover different objects in our Solar System that stay in the sky versus objects that continue to Earth.

Our mission to discover where we come from, and where we are going! First off, we need to get to space and discover what we are going to find! So who knows what we are going to discover beyond our atmosphere? We are going to discover different objects that we see from our own little planet and beyond! This is going to take some thinking skills so if everyone is ready, let’s blast off!

Task

Is it a bird? A Plane? No its SCIENCE!!!! Our goal is to discover what different objects we can discover in our solar system that stay in space versus what is terrestrial (look a vocabulary word!) Every one of us has the chance to be a great explorer, we just have to know where to start. So, if everyoe is ready? Make sure you are buckled in, the tray table is in its full upright position and prepare for launch! Lets start with this video! "Whats in the Sky?"

How else are we going to discover what surrounds us? We here have come up with a creative solution! Lets play a game before we expand our minds with some awesome books!! The Magic School bus seems the way to go!

Thats was fun! Now let's try something different? Every day we see objects in the sky. Some objects stay in the sky and some do not. Can you identify the object that stay in the sky and the ones that do not?

Process

Your task is to discover different objects, both in space and terrestrial (Mr. Vocabulary strikes again!) Stars, Comets, Asteroids, Oh my! (Looks like the mad Dr. Vocabulary is testing you out!)

Can a school bus fly in the sky or travel in space? No.

We all know that a school bus cannot fly or travel in space but if you use your imagination anything is possible. Let’s use our imagination to see what we know about the Solar System.

One more book and one more Video to go! Ready, Set Learn!

WE have one more discovery book to read!

And one more fact filled video! Pay close attention cause these are remarkable!

Awesome facts about Our Solar System!

Here is a great idea for those who get done early! Students will make a flipbook. Students would need construction paper, white paper, crayons, and their science book. Students will draw each planet on a sheet of paper, and on the back they will write a fact or facts about the planet. When they are finished the teacher will check their work and staple their flipbooks together. If other students in the class need extra time or attention, then this is a fun activity for students to move along and work on their own.

Now it is time to see what you have learned about the solar system.

Let's some check some of our research by completeing a few worksheets and journal entries.

Evaluation

Students know and understand the difference between objects that stay in the sky and those that do not. Beyond the Earth’s atmosphere we have discovered many things in our journey. Now that our mission is complete, let’s take a space quiz to see what we know!

SPACE QUIZ!

Now let’s what you learn about the solar system. Write what you learn from the book and video. Include three important facts from the book and video. What was your favorite part of the book??

Go ahead…WRITE!!

And one last Worksheet! Everyone needs their scissors and glue sticks! Just cut each picture out and glue them where they belong! It's that simple!

Name: _____________________________________________

Objects in the sky!

Cut out the objects and paste them under the correct column. Write the name of the object next to the picture.
