Task

Your job is to work on a committee to compare life in different regions of California to help newcomers to California decide where to live.
Each committee will determine size (square miles), population (order the top 5 cities of the region), weather (average in summer and winter), major cities and attractions, average home prices, and major industries in each region.
Each committee will choose a region to research, document, and record findings to publish in an attractive poster, brochure, or digital
presentation. Each committee will present to their class and other classrooms.
Process
1) You will first need to meet with your committee and decide which region you will research.
2) Your committee will research information from your "My California" textbook, library books, and internet sites.
3) Organize your data with thinking maps or other charts. I recommend using a tree map, but you can use other maps.
4) Finally, you will discuss with your committee what you have learned and decide which is the best place to live in your region.
5) You will make a neat display (poster, brochure, powerpoint, video, etc) showing your information and findings.
6) Finally, you will present to the classroom and other classes.
Evaluation
- You will be graded based on your effort, quality of work, and your presentation.
- Make sure you ordered the population of the major cities, ordered the height of the highest mountains, and displayed a lot of other data that uses numbers in the hudred thousands.
- The project is worth 100 points (equal to a regular test)
- Your committee members will also give you an effort grade.
Conclusion
- You will have learned a lot of about California and what the state has to offer for anyone wanting to live here.
- You will have mastered how to read and write numbers up to the millions.
- You will have learned how to research real life information and how to make important decisions based on what you learned.
