Ratio

Introduction

Zack and Corey decides to play marble after school. Before they playing, Zack and Corey counted there marbles.  Zack realised that he has 32 marbles, 18 of which are red and 14 of which are blue while, Corey also realized that he has 24 marbles, all of them either red or blue.

Before playing the game, Zack and Corey needs to know the ratio of both marbles as well as, the ratio for both blue and red marbles? Can you help Zack and Corey to find the ratio. 

Task

The purpose of the WebQuest is to help you understand the concept of Ratio and calculate the ratio of different things. At the end of the WebQuest you should be able to:

  • Define what is Ratio in your words.

  • Accurately explain one type of ratio.

  • Correctly calculate the ratio of two objects. 

As a result, you will be going to different sites on the Internet to learn about ratio. The resources that will use is phet simulation and online videos. 

Process

  • What is the purpose of ratio?

Instructions: Students are required to carry out the following activities in groups of three. In the video presentation, the members of the group should be actively participating in the presentation.

  • Using a video recording device, record your group members explaining what is ratio. (Ensure that your voice can be clearly heard).
  • In the video, demonstrate how to find the ratio any of the following below. (Show all working).
  1. Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 2. If 2 is added to the first and 6 is added to the second number, they are in the ratio 4 : 5. Find the numbers.
  2. Issac leaves $ 12400 behind. According to his wish, the money is to be divided between his son and daughter in the ratio 3 : 2. Find the sum received by his son.
  • In the video, show 3 examples of the ratio use in everyday life.
