Habitat for Humanity? The Red Cross? The Human Society? What do each of these organizations have in common?

Task
  • By the end of the webquest, you should understand:

    • What a charity or non-profit organization is
    • What "profit" is
    • The type of work charities do
    • Why their work is important

You will search the web to find answers to questions regarding Non-Profits and to research (3) different organizations.

Open up your Docs to complete your work. You may also want a piece of paper to take some notes. Click on "Process" to proceed. 

Process

For each task, you MUST include the URL in your answer.

You also MUST sum up using your own words. 

Task #1

Find the definition of the word PROFIT.

Record that definition in a DOC.

Task #2

Go to http://www.nonprofit.pro/nonprofit_organization.htm

Read the article.

While you read, write down any words that are new to you.

I will expect to see at least 3 new terms.

Answer the following questions in your DOC.

  1. What is a non-profit?
  2. What must the purpose of a non-profit be?
  3. What does tax-exempt status mean?
  4. Do non-profits have employees? Explain.
  5. Do non-profits have clients? Explain.
  6. Find the definitions for the new words you read.

Task #3

Watch the following video.

While you watch, write down any words that are new to you.

I will expect to see at least 3 new terms.

Type those new 3 words into your DOCS.

Now go search for what they are and type the definition into your DOC.

Task #4

Go to http://topnonprofits.com/lists/best-nonprofits-on-the-web/

Scroll through the list.

How many have you heard of? Write that number in your DOC.

Click on one that you have never heard of. Write the name in your DOC, as well as what they are and what they do. 

 

Task #5

Complete the following requirements by writing the answers in your DOC. You may use that list or search the web to find: 

a. Find one non-profit dedicated to literacy.

b. Find one non-profit dedicated to veterans.

c. Find one non-profit dedicated to animals. 

d. Find one non-profit dedicated to children. 

e. Find one non-profit dedicated to the environment.

f. Find one non-profit dedicated to education.

g. Find one non-profit dedicated to homelessness.

h. Find one non-profit dedicated to mental health.

i. Find one non-profit dedicated to physical health.

j. Find one non-profit dedicated to women.

Task #6

Great job. You are almost done! You need to go through your DOC and make sure you have the URLs for each task. Also make sure your work is complete and accurate. Finally, share your work with me for grading.  Make sure the email box is checked so I get notified that you have shared it.

To earn full credit you must:

-complete all 6 tasks. 

-include the URLs for all 6 tasks.

-Not copy and paste, but instead paraphrase your learning.
