Battles of the American Revolution!

The American Revolution for Independence began as a result of a tyrannical monarch from Great Britain, King George III.  Colonists in North America were unhappy about the taxes King George III was imposing on the colonists because the colonists did not have any representation in the British law-making body, Parliament.  After 12 years of injustice, according to American Rebels or Patriots, it was time the colonists took action through war.

Many attempts had been made previously to get King George III to see the colonists point--Rebels had boycotted goods, wrote pamphlets, and started groups for Liberty.  Influential rebel/patriot leaders formed the Contintental Congress and met in Philadelphia, where they created the Declaration of Rights and the Olive Branch Petition, asking the King for peace and a repeal of the Intolerable Acts.  King George III ignored them and so the colonists began to prepare for war.

The Shot Heard Round the World occured on April 19, 1775 at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.  This battle would later be known as the official beginning of the American Revolution for Independence and would lead to the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the great new nation of the United States of America founded on equality, representative government, and the freedom of religion.
