LIFESKILLS: PA 5 Keys to Good Health Part 1: Healthy Eating

Introduction

Hello, LifeSkills Students! Ms. Lewis and Mrs. Buffie have created a webquest just for you! Welcome to the beginning of a healthier and happier life for you and your family. There are 5 keys to good health, and we will have weekly webquests on each section:

1. Healthy eating

2. Exercise

3. Attitude

4. Adequate sleep

5. Reflection

In this section we will be discussing Keys to Healthy Eating. Healthy eating involves eating more fresh fruit, vegetable, water, and healthy snacks. Also, did you know that raw fruit and veggies are more healthy than packaged snacks? And that preparing whole food is heatlhier than packaged foods? Even better, whole foods are less expensive than prepared foods.

Food is not bad. Fake food is! Whether the latest article decries salt, sugar, fat, or meat, they all lead to the same conclusion. Eat real food in moderate proportions. And cook your food yourself as much as you can. If you eat whole foods – fruits, veggies, whole grains, unprocessed, unfrozen, free of preservatives, made by you at home with fresh ingredients – you avoid all of the perils of excess of anything. The major problem with food in America is that much of it is so processed you might as well inject it via syringe into your arm. Because processed food tends to be packed with excess calories, salt, or chemicals, it kicks off an inflammatory state in the body, which is not meant to handle super-saturated nutritional bombs. So eat simply and well, most of the time, and help your body out immensely.

Task

In this webquest, you will be exploring how to introduce healthier eating habits into your life. You will be answering questions and then you will create a short presentation, poem, song, or rap about what you've learned to share with your classmates, family, and friends.
