Introduction

Welcome: Poetry Webquest

Description: This Webquest is designed to help familiarize you with poetry.

Pretend that you are working as a reporter.  Your job is to work cooperatively with your assigned partner to complete all of the assigned tasks.  It is absolutely necessary that you follow all directions carefully and completely in order to successfully accomplish your goal.    Follow the directions under Task and Process to get started. You may ask questions at any time.  Happy searching!

Task 1

1.Your first task is to use the provided Internet links to define the following poetry terms.

Define the term in a way that shows you understand it.

If you copy the definition from the internet I will check on your comprehension. 

Put it in your own words or provide an example.

Using the words from this page, follow the Process on the Process page. 

This will tell you exactly what to do and what web page to use.

Task 2

2. Your second task is to use the provided Internet links to research the following types of poetry. 

Take the words from this page, then go to the process page to find the exact steps to do this activity correctly.

Task 3

3. Your 3rd task is to create your own poems for two of your favorite types of poetry.

They must be original and written together with your partner.

They must contain at least two poetic elements from the terms of task #1.

Follow the directions under Process for Task #3.

 

Task 4

4. You will hand in a Poetry Portfolio that includes all of the information from tasks 1-3. 

Directions for this are under process, make sure you follow them exactly before you submit your portfolio.

Process

Process for Task 1

1. Use the internet pages below to define the poetry terms given for task 1 on the Tasks page. Remember to put them in your own words or provide an example to show that you understand the word.

2. Type these terms and definitions into a Google Doc in the classroom titled  "Poetry Terms." Then copy the document into your Google Drive. 

3. Be sure both partners' names are on the document.

Process for Task 2- do not start until you have completed task 1

1. Use Google or the link from above to search for examples of the types of poetry given under Task 2 on the task page.

2. Look at several different examples of each type of poetry.

3. Choose your favorite example of each type and copy and paste it onto a blank page in your Poetry Portfolio. There should only be one poem per page.

Each page should include the following for full credit:

  •  At the top of each page the title should be the type of poem.

  • Write a short definition that you understand for this type of poem
  • Paste a sample of that type of poem that you chose from the internet.
  • Include the title of the poem and author, also list the website where you found the poem.
  • Reread each poem and find examples of the poetic elements/ terms from task 1. Highlight or underline any examples that are present, at the end of the poem list what poetic term it is. You need to find at least 1 example in each poem.

7.  Save in Poetry Portfolio in your Google Docs. 

Process for Task 3

1. Choose your two favorite types of poems from the list of poems you researched.

2. Write your own original example based on the poetry type you selected.  These poems should be written together in your groups.

3. Each poem must contain at least one example of one of the poetry terms from task #1, high light or underline your example, at the end of the poem list the terms you used.

4. Write the poems with your partner.

5. Insert clipart for each poem. You may also change text and font color. Don't be afraid to be creative for this part.

6. Save your poems and put them in your Poetry Portfolio.

Process for Task 4

1. Design a cover sheet for your Poetry Portfolio. This cover sheet should include all names in your group, section  and a title.

2. Separate your Poetry Portfolio into three sections: 1. Poetry Terms 2. Poetry Examples 3. Original Poems

3. Paste a copy of the rubric  as the last page of your poetry portfolio. The rubric is under the Evaluation page.  This sheet will be used for grading. If your portfolio does not include the rubric it will not be graded!

4. Once you have checked that all of the requirements are included in your portfolio, share your portfolio to sreed@bethanylcs.org by 11/20. 

Evaluation
