Task
You have been tasked with analysing a poem as well as providing a literary essay thereof.
Poem: FIRST DAY AFTER THE WAR by Mazisi Kunene.

Instructions:
- Analyse the poem using the steps which are provided under the "Process" heading
- Write a literary essay of 200-250 words by means of using the Four Square Poetry Analysis method.
Process
Follow the steps provided in aid of your task completion.
Step 1: Analyse the poem - refer to resource numbered 1
- number the lines
- read the poem twice
- identify the title and how the title relates to the rest of the poem
- provide internal analysis (line-by-line)
- identify the mood and the tone
- identify the theme (if one is present)
- identify the imagery
Step 2: Four Square Poetry Analysis - refer to resource numbered 2
- section your analysis into the four squares, in point form, under the appropriate headings.
Step 3: Literary Essay - refer to resource numbered 3
- create a mind-map
- roughly jot down your ideas
- elaborate on each point made in analysis
- proceed with your essay
Essay format:
- Introduction (3 sentences)
- Body paragraphs (+- 3 paragraphs)
- Conclusion (+- 3 sentences)
