Introduction
The fundamental building block of all living things is the cell. Plants are made up of several cells, much like people and animals. Plant cells have a cell wall that surrounds them and helps give them form. Other organelles, in addition to the cell wall, are connected to other cellular functions.
In this WebQuest, you will learn about the structure of the plant cell, as well as the roles of its several organelles.
Task
Task: Drawing and identifying a plant cell
Your drawing must include
- Features of a plant cell
- Identification of the different organelles in a plant cell
- Identification of the structure and function of a plant cell
The drawing must be visible and drawn using a pencil.

Evaluation
You will be evaluated based on the rubric below.
| Criteria | Excellent (10 pts) | Good (8 pts) | Satisfactory (6 pts) | Needs Improvement (4 pts) | Unsatisfactory (2 pts) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cell Structure Accuracy | All organelles are correctly labeled and accurately drawn. | Most organelles are correctly drawn and labeled, with minor errors. | Some organelles are missing or inaccurately drawn. | Several organelles are missing or incorrectly labeled. | Most organelles are missing or drawn inaccurately. |
| Neatness & Organization | The drawing is clear, neat, and well-organized. Labels are easy to read. | The drawing is neat, with only minor issues in organization. | The drawing is somewhat messy, but still understandable. | The drawing is disorganized, making it difficult to interpret. | The drawing is extremely messy or difficult to read. |
| Labeling & Spelling | All organelles are correctly labeled with no spelling errors. | Most organelles are labeled correctly with few spelling errors. | Some organelles are mislabeled or have spelling mistakes. | Many organelles are mislabeled or difficult to read. | Labels are missing or mostly incorrect. |
| Color & Presentation | Appropriate colors are used to differentiate organelles, making the drawing visually appealing. | Colors are used but may not be consistent or clear. | Some color is used, but it does not enhance the drawing. | Minimal or inappropriate use of color. | No color is used, making the drawing unclear. |
| Overall Understanding | The drawing clearly demonstrates an understanding of plant cell structure. | The drawing mostly reflects an understanding of plant cells, with minor mistakes. | The drawing shows basic understanding, but some concepts are unclear. | Limited understanding of plant cell structure is shown. | Little to no understanding of plant cells is demonstrated. |

Conclusion
The plant cell is made up of different parts, each with an important job to help the plant grow and survive. The cell wall gives it shape and support, while chloroplasts help make food through photosynthesis. Other organelles, like the nucleus and vacuole, help the cell function properly.
Understanding the plant cell and its structure helps us learn how plants live, grow, and support life on Earth.
