Plan A Trip To Walt Disney World!!

Introduction

Introduction

In this quest you will be tasked with planning the perfect trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. You have a budget of $5000 and you must plan your trip for a family of 4. Your trip must last at least 6 days and it will include airfare from either PHX (Phoenix) or DCA (Washington DC). You must plan to stay at any of the on-site Disney properties. You do not need to rent a car, you can arrange for transportation using Disney's Magical Express. You must plan for three meals per day (keep in mind the quick dining and upscale dining plans that are available). You must also visit at least 3 Disney parks throughout your stay.

Task

Your Task

Looking at your budget of $5000 you will decide how to make the most of your alloted funds; you must spend the closest to that amount without going over. Remember your trip is for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). You must visit at least three of the four theme parks and one water park during your stay.

  • Find flights from PDX (Phoenix) or DCA (Washington DC) to MCO (Orlando). Is it better to pick a non-stop flight?
  • Pick your Disney hotel. Will you choose value, moderate, or premium accomodations?
  • Will you opt for the Disney Dining Plans or Pay As You Go?
  • Pick at least 5 restaurants you want to eat at while on your trip
  • Which parks will you choose to visit? (P.s... you are not considered a Florida Resident anymore)
  • Include other things to do such as Charater Experiences, Entertainment, and Shops

Each person in the group will have one of the following roles:

¨ Events Coordinator/Banker-keeps track of money spent and budget

¨ Transportation Agent- analyzes all modes of transportation to get to and from Walt Disney World.

¨ Accommodations Manager- compares hotel and meal rates for a one week stay

¨ Dining and Activity Planner- research all possible activities and prices for each theme park

¨ Presenter- Present the group's presentation to the class

Create a presentation that outlines your findings. You must show a table that outlines your budget and how you are chosing to use your funds.

Presentations must include:

how much for the flights

how much for the hotel

admission ticket prices

costs of food per person/ per day

a list of 5 restaurants and your favorite menu items

the cost of your souvenir's

your daily itinerary

Process

Transportation Agent!!

As your group's travel expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much it will cost to travel to Florida.

You have two choices of transportation: flying or driving.

In order to help you choose which way is best for your group, you will have to research information to figure out the cost of each. You will then present your data to your group to decide as a whole which choice is best.

  • If you choose to fly: You will need to buy round-trip plane tickets for two of your group members under 11 years old, and for two adults. You will start at DCA or PHX and your destination is Orlando, Florida.  You pick your travel dates.
  • If you chose to drive: You will need to pay for gas for a round-trip drive starting from Washington DC or Phoenix and ending at Orlando, Florida.

Keep in mind, that although driving is cheaper, it will take you at least one whole day to get there, and one whole day to return which will cut into your vacation time.

Accommodations Manager!!

As your group's lodging expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much it will cost to stay in a hotel for at least 6 nights. In order to figure this out, you will use a website to search for hotel prices and from the search results you will be able to figure out the cost of four nights in a hotel.

  • The first thing you will do is click on the following Walt Disney World Hotels link below and put in your dates. You may also visit some of the sites that you could book a fight on; instead of putting in flight information, you will click on the hotels and type in your destination as Walt Disney World and your dates.
  • You must stay at a Walt Disney World Resort- located on Disney property

You will then present the hotels that fall into the three price categories (value, moderate, or premium) to your group so that you can decide as a whole which choice is best.

Dining and Activities Planner!!

As your group's dining expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much all of your meals on this trip will cost.

You will need to figure out which restaurant is the least expensive medium cost, and most expensive.

  • You will have to figure out the cost of all three meals per day for everyone on the trip, as well as the total cost of meals for the entire vacation.
  • Your beverages will be free. -You do not have to figure out how much sales tax will cost, but you do have to figure out how much the tip for your meal will cost and add it to your total.
  • You will then present the restaurants that fall into the three price categories to your group so that you can decide as a whole which choice is best.

As your group's activity planner, you are in charge of figuring out what types of additional activities you want your group to do while on vacation. You might want to participate in Character Experiences, go shopping and look for souvenir's, or see other enteratinment show in Downtown Disney.

  • Your job is to research these extracurricular ideas and present them to your group.
  • As a group, you must determine if your budget permits these additions.

Events Coordinator/Banker!!

As the Events Coordinator and Banker, you have multiple roles. You are in charge of figuring out how much park entrances will cost and recording the budgets for the trip.

  • You will need to compare prices of multi-day park passes as well as park hoppers
  • You will have to decide which parks you will visit
  • You will have to compare prices to find the most cost effective packages
  • You must present your group with at least 3 different park options
  • You must collaborate with the dining expert to make sure the restaurants and parks match.

Presenter!!

As the presenter, your role is to show the class your group's presentation of the trip to Disney World. You must be able to discuss why you chose your options and provide us with a visual outline of your trip.

***This is a group effort... All members will help the allocated person with their specific task. Groups are encouraged to work together to plan each section of the trip. All team members must agree.

What have you learned by planning your dream vacation to Walt Disney World within a specified budget?

What would you do differently without strict guidelines? Would you have looked for hotels off of the Disney property?

Would you plan to go at a different time of the year to save money?

Would you save more money to stay at a better hotel? Would you stay at a less expensive hotel and have more money to spend on food?

Prentend you still live out of state: Would you drive to Florida instead of flying? Would that save you money or cost more?

There are many factors to consider when planning a trip. This WebQuest was designed to give you strict rules to see how creative you could be when you only have so much money to plan but want to do many things with the money you were allotted.

In life there are many times when we only have a certain amount of money but we want to do many things with that money. We have to make decisions about this - what is most important to us - what do we not care so much about.

I hope you enjoyed this WebQuest and that you were able to plan the perfect Disney vacation within the boundaries that were set for you.
