Introduction
The evolution of the field of Early Childhood Education and Development from a historical viewpoint is very recent, when looked at from the view of human experience and existence over all time. “In sum, for several thousand years after the advent of agriculture, the education for most children was, to a considerable degree, a matter squashing their willfulness to make them good laborers.” Gray, 2008). In other words, they were abused and put to work. This is a stark contrast from what students experience in society today.
Today, an education is inclusive and mandatory, where even infants can participate. Education has evolved into a discipline that is identified as a Science as well as an Art. Over past centuries there have been many people that have been included as contributors to the field of Early Childhood Development and Education. Their ideas, experiments, and events that took place in their lives and work with children are identified as important to the general knowledge of Teacher Education. This Webquest is a brief overview and exploration of a few of the Pioneers in the field of Early Childhood Education.
