Photosynthesis

Introduction

Welcome to Kiddies Learning center created by Kyiesha Waugh. This website is designed to introduce and educate students on the process of photosynthesis .

Did you know that plants make their own food ?

Well I do hope you continue viewing to learn more about plants feeding process!! Have Fun !!

Task

Your task for this lesson are the following:

1. Learn how to define photosynthesis

2. Learn how does Photosynthesis takes place.

3. Learn how to explain the role of plants in a food chain.

HAVE FUN WHILE YOU DO SO!

Well hello students before we start our lesson let us watch a short video to inform us on the topic of today's lesson.

Photosynthesis is the process plants use to take the energy from sunlight and use it to convert carbon dioxide and water into food.

The process of photosynthesis

Plants need three basic things to live: water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. Plants breathe carbon dioxide just like we breathe oxygen. When plants breathe carbon dioxide in, they breathe out oxygen. Plants are the major source of oxygen on planet Earth and help keep us alive.

We know now that plants use sunlight as energy, they get water from rain, and they get carbon dioxide from breathing. The process of taking these three key ingredients and making them into food is called photosynthesis.

Plants capture sunlight using a compound called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is green, which is why so many plants appear green. You might think at first that it's green because it wants to absorb and use green light.

What happens during Photosynthesis?

The photosynthesis process takes place in the leaves of plants. The leaves are made up of very small cells. Inside these cells are tiny structures called chloroplasts. Each chloroplast contains a green chemical called chlorophyll which gives leaves their green color.

  • Chlorophyll absorbs the sun’s energy.
  • Oxygen is released from the leaves into the atmosphere.
  • Hydrogen and carbon dioxide are used to form glucose or food for plants.

Some of the glucose is used to provide energy for the growth and development of plants while the rest is stored in leaves, roots or fruits for later use by plants.

Evaluation

A.)Answer the Following Questions based on the video you watched.

What is photosynthesis? ______________________________________________________

2.Where does photosynthesis occur?______________________________________________

3.What are chloroplasts and where are they found? ___________________________________

4.What are the two main functions of chloroplasts?___________________________________

5.Why doe most leaves appear green? _____________________________________________

6.What is the primary pigment found in the chloroplast?_______________________________________

7. Why plants are the Primary producers in a food chain? _____________________________________

B.) In your Journals I want you to write a short composition about what you have learnt about Photosynthesis.

Focus Question: How do Plants and Animals Interact?

Topic: Photosynthesis

Attainment target:

  • Recognize that plants are the ultimate food source for all living things .

LESSON OBJECTIVES

a. Cognitive Objective- The student will be able to build on prior knowledge from the food chain to how plants make their own food.

b. Affective Objective- The student will be able to share their feelings about the process of photosynthesis in their journals.

c. Psychomotor Objective- The student will be able to touch and tell where photosynthesis takes place and the list at least two parts of a plant while stating its function .

The following are the lesson objectives used to create this web quest:

At the end of this lesson students should be able to:

  • Define the Term Photosynthesis
  • Tell where on the Plant Photosynthesis takes places
  • List at least three parts of the plant that work together to make the process of Photosynthesis .
  • State the function of Glucose, Carbon dioxide and Oxygen in Photosynthesis
  • Explain how chlorophyll is made
