PGD40S - Social Change

Introduction

Photography as a Tool of Social Change

Applied Photography Specific Learning Outcome 12D.8.3.1: Research an event to determine how photography (either still or video) was used as a tool for social justice (change).

The visual impact photography has made over the past two centuries is quiet evident. Photography has been used as a tool to shape and change public opinions and government policies. Photographers have used their profession to bring home stories, both good and bad, so all can be witnesses.

Over the course of the next week, students will be asked to research the stories behind some of the world most influential images and determine how and what impact these images have had in creating social change. Please note; some images will be difficult to view and many have graphic content which may shock the viewer.
