Introduction
Today we will be learning about measuring the perimeter. We will measure different shapes and learn how to find the perimeter of them.
Task
Students will work in partners to measure the shapes on their worksheets and add together their measurements in order to find the perimeter of every shape.
Process
- as i pass out the worksheets please get out your rulers
- once you have the worksheet and are with your partner write BOTH partners name at the top
- measure every side of the shape and write out the measurements next to it
- once you have measured every side of the shape you will add those numbers together to find the perimeter
- don't forget to write your unit next to the answer!
- repeat this process on every shape until the worksheet it complete
Evaluation
| 1 | 2 | 3 | |
| Accuracy | Student did not make the correct measurements or calculations. | Students had some correct measurements and calculations. | Students had all of the correct measurements and calculations. |
| Completion | Student did not complete any of the worksheet. | Student completed some of the worksheet. | Student completed the whole worksheet. |
| Partner Work | Student did not work well or quietly with partner. | Student worked was disruptive with partner but got some work done. | Student disrupted the class with partner and did not get any work done. |
Conclusion
In this assignment you should have been able to practice what you already know about how to measure accurately and put it to use when finding perimeter. This also should have been good review with your addition facts. You can now find the perimeter of any shape!

I will have to create and print out a worksheet with about 8-10 shapes on it. Students will be in partners so they only need one worksheet to share. Students should each have a ruler. Allow students to work for about 20 min. Make sure to remind them to list the unit next to their answers.
