Introduction

You and your group of classmates are researchers on the history of Great Britain. In this task, you will read about the history of this important place and find out about its people, languages and cultures. Let's learn about the English language and its evolution!

Task

Read about Great Britain and its cultures. Do your research, choose 3 of the following questions and write a clear presentation with images and text to answer them, plus the extra topic.

  • - How did the British Isles form?
  • - What languages originated in Great Britain?
  • - What languages are spoken today in Great Britain?
  • - What is the origin of the English language?
  • - What are some of the unique features of the English language?
  • - Which cultures have habited the British Isles in the past millenium? 

 

  • - Extra topic: Choose one thing you like the most about the island of Great Britain and write about it too. It could be cuisine, culture, music, history, one specific event or year, etc. Explore your favourite aspect of the island.

2. Choose which of these texts and videos you would like to work with, and look yourself for interesting sources on the topics. Then, utilizing realia, images, texts, videos, music or any other tool that you like, build your presentations and cite your sources at the end.

3. Your group will then present this to your classmates.

Evaluation

Your presentation is worth 10 points, and will be evaluated by following these guidelines:

1. Accuracy of information and clarity of sources (3 point)

2. Quality of the presentation, clarity of speech (3 points)

3. Use of the English language (2 points)

4. Engagement of with the class (1 points)

5. Extra Topic (1 point for choosing and explaining the extra topic)

After finishing this presentation and receveing your grade, you will have researched topics of your interest, shared them with classmates and learned how to look for information online. This will help you learn new things about the language we are studying, and develop new interest in the history of other languages in Great Britain.
