Roller Coaster Whirl

Introduction

You will be exploring Newton's Three Laws and energy and applying them to create a roller-coaster ride online!

TIPS for smooth sailing:

1. Make sure you RIGHT CLICK on the links and press "open link in new window". Then, you simply click on the tab to open it. You click on the WebQuest Tab to return here. (I will show you what I mean).

2. Make sure to answer the worksheet questions WHILE you work. There are specific questions for each website.

3. Have fun! This should be a really fun way to learn about force, motion, and energy.

Task

Your task is to check out the links provided to review Newton's 3 laws and the forms of energy. As you work, you will answer questions about each link on the WebQuest Worksheet. At the end, you will apply what you have learned to create a roller coaster. Make sure to answer all of the questions and enjoy!

Process

Click on the Following Links to learn more about force and motion!

Part 1: Newton's Three Laws.

1. Begin by reviewing Newton's 3 Laws. Be sure to answer the questions about this site on your worksheet!

Part 2: Forms of energy. What do you know about energy? Let's find out here!

1. Look at the different forms of energry. For the transfer of energy, focus on kinetic energy.

**Answer the questions on the worksheet**

Part 3: Roller Coaster Challenge! Put Newton's Laws into practice by creating a roller coaster.

1. Check this site out to create a fun and safe roller coaster. Start by reading about how roller coasters work, then click on the "Design a roller coaster" link. They will rate your work, so make sure you read what the judges say!

**Answer the questions on the worksheet.**

2. Use the track pieces to design a roller coaster with the guidance of Fetch. Keep an eye on the potential and kinetic energy meters!

I hope you enjoyed the WebQuest!!

Evaluation

I will be looking over your answers on the WebQuest Worksheet to see what you learned from this experience. Be sure to rate the WebQuest so I know what you thought (5 stars meaning you learned a lot and it was fun, 0 stars meaning it was super boring and I didn't learn).
