Gumboot Day

Introduction

Weird and wonderful traditional Games take place all over the world. Today, you will find out about a typical game in the city of Tailhape in New Zealand and create your own presentation about it.  

Task

You will learn about the Gumboot Day in New Zealand. There is a traditional game taking place on that particular date. You will find out:

1.) What exactly it is

2.) Where it takes place 

3.) What tradition/history there is behind it

4.) What people of New Zealad think about it

After you have learned all the information to answer the questions above, you will create your own presentation about the Gumboot Day in form of a Powerpoint. Insert pictures, choose clear titles and write at least four paragraphes (containing at least 5 sentences) on four different slides (description of pictures not included). You can choose the content on your own, but make sure, that anyone who has no idea about the Gumboot Day, learns and understands everything about it only by reading your presentation. 

When finished, send your presentation to your teacher by email. 

Process

To create your own presentation about the Gumboot Day, follow the steps below.

Step 3: Choose four topics from your notes and write a short text about it. If you don't have enough sentences, continue your websearch about this topic especially to find more information about it.  

Step 4: Figure out, how you want to build up your powerpoint. Make a plan, how many slides you want to create and in which order you want to give information about Gumboot Day. Remember: Someone who has never heard of this holiday should be able to learn everything about it by your presentation just by clicking through it.Think about what information is important. 

Step 5: If you think that your presentation is finished, give it someone to read who has never heart about Gumboot Day. Maybe to someone in your family, e.g. your siblings or your parents. If they understand what the Gumboot Day is about just from reading your presentation, you are good to go.

Step 6: Go through your presentation for the last time, check spelling mistakes. 

Step 7: Send the presentation to your teacher by email.
