Pablo Picasso is widely known as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born in Spain in 1881, Picasso was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and designer. He started off as a child artist and was always looking for new and innovative ways to create art. In is 91 years, Picasso went through different periods in his life and changed his artistic style more than any other great artist. He experienced many ups and downs in his life and his art went through many periods with him. In this webquest you will discover the life and art of one of the world's greatest artist, Pablo Picasso.

Task

Imagine that you are the responsible of the Museum of Modern Art and your job is to research and develop an exhibit that explores the life and artwork of the great artist Pablo Picasso. Your exhibit will include information about the life of the artist, the Blue Period, the Rose Period, and Cubism. Picasso is called 'The Father of Modern Art' because he forever changed the way we look at art, lets find out why!

Strudent instructions:

You will be making a power point presentation which will sum up your findings throughout this webquest as well as create an original piece of art based on his cubism period. There are 5 steps to this task.

  1. Research the life and artwork of Picasso including his various periods.
  2. Summarize your findings and create your power point presentation.
  3. Go to Picassohead and create your online cubist portrait and include all of the portarits created by each member of the group.
  4. Introduce your power point presentation to your classmates.
  5. Evaluate your work using the rubric to score yourself

1. Background research:

Use the websites provided below to look for the information needed to create your power point presentation, summarize the information found and collect the most famous works of art of Picasso.

2. Create a power point presentation

Summarize the information found and create a power point presentation. Don`t forget to include the most important works of art, pointing out the period they belong to.

3. Create your online portrait

Go to Picassoshead and create your online portrait. Each member of the group have to create their own one and all of them should be included in your power point presentation.

Be creative and make the best portrait!

4. Introduce the power point presentation to your classmates

Once you have your power point finished, introduce it to your classmates, Remember to use a mind-map to help your oral presentation and don`t forget that all the members have to speak!

 

Evaluation

For this webquest, you will be evaluated on 4 categories of the process; the research, writing, personal participation, and your artwork. When you complete each task, evaluate your work using the components of the rubric below. Your score will be taken into consideration in the final grading.

Conclusion

In this webquest you have explored the life and artwork of one of the world's greatest artists, Pablo Picasso. Picasso was and innovative and ever changing artist who was constantly changing his style and trying new things. He lived a very interesting life of desperation, hope, poverty, wealth, joy, lust, anger and pease and this was evident in the thousands of pieces he created over decades of the 20th century. As a man, he challenged the traditional views and forever changed the way we look at and think about art. Picasso is an inspiration to us all, how will you express your story for the world to see?
