Output Devices

Introduction

Welcome back to another week of class. Now that we have finished input devices, we will now focus our attention on output devices. I know that you are all excited about getting more information from the computer. Lets us explore the cyber- world of output devices. Enjoy!!!!!!

Students will listen to an audio called '

“Output to mi thing” with lyrics:

After listening and singing the song, students will be asked to identify the output devices

Task

Technology is dominating the world, whereby it makes work easier and learning fun. As grade 7 students it is very important that you are aware of the various ways in which the computer produces information to humans.

This web quest is designed to assist you in knowing the various ways in which the computer produces information.  By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

1. Define correctly the term Output devices, after introductory activity.

2. Distinguish between soft copy and hard copy output

3. List at least six (6) output devices within five minutes that evident in the computer laboratory.

4. Describe some of the characteristics and uses of different output devices, after discussion.

5. Discuss the importance of output devices with 100% accuracy.

At the end of the lesson you will be expected to form groups of four wherein you will  create a reflective journal on the three objectives stated above. Please be as creative as possible. (The use of pictures is highly recommended).

Process

Step 1:

Students will be placed in four (4) groups of five (5). In groups students will share their ideas in what they understand from the introductory activity.

After which, students will be provide with unscrambled words which they will be required to scramble in their groups, so as to come up with the term Output Devices and a definition for the term. Students will be given five minutes to achieve this after which the teacher will randomly select a student from each group to give their answer which will be written on the white board from which a discussion will ensue so as to provide clarity for students.

Step 2:

Based on introductory activity, students will be prompt to differentiate between softcopy and hardcopy output. Students will be required to provide examples of each to substantiate responses. Afterwards, the teacher will give students guided instruction in opening Google search engine and type in “what is the difference between softcopy and hardcopy output?”

Step 3:

Students will be prompt to launch https://www.slideshare.net/mrsdurff2/input-output-ppt and analyze all the devices shown there and list all those items that are output devices. Afterwards, as a group student will ensue a discussion activity with the use of a PowerPoint presentation prepared and presented by the teacher. This activity will be based on students actively viewing, listening, responding to questions asked by the teacher and discussing concepts learnt.

Evaluation

This is the rubric from which your journal will be marked. Please read it as a group and follow the mark scheme before submitting your work.

Conclusion

.

Now that your are aware of how the computer communicates to the users with the use of output devices, I hope you will  use these devices effectively to enhance your learning. It  is your duty to identify these devices where you see them as well as use them up.

All the best. Until next class always remember to learn something new.
