One Brochure, One Defense against Discrimination

Introduction

Have you ever thought of how many people have been deprived of a job because of their age, gender, marital status, physical appearance, religious affiliation or nationality?

Come to think about it!

Perhaps, you might have been a victim of discrimination yourself.

We are now living in a very competitive world where it is easier for these discriminating forces to prey on us, especially on teenagers like you.

But...

Worry not! You can build your own defenses against discrimination.

Are you ready? Put your helmet on. Let's go!

Task

Your final task for Module 2 is a quality brochure that would feature your own defenses against discrimination.

It aims to develop your creativity as well as your research, note-taking, and organization skills. Through your output, you should be able to inform others of the different ways by which they can defend themselves against discrimination.

Process

1. First, consider these useful tips in making a brochure. Please click on the link below.

2. You might also want to get creative ideas from these videos:

3. With your group mates, discuss how you will distribute the tasks. Remember that the KEY here is COLLABORATION.

4. Start working. Manage your time well. Have fun!

5. Your brochure should come in 2 copies (Contents are the same, but you may opt to vary the designs.) As you do it, consider the rubric on page 50 of your module.

6. Once you are finished, write your individual reflective essay that is not less than 300 words but should not exceed 500 words. Be guided by the following questions:

- How did you divide the task as a group?

- What was the role given to you?

- What difficulty/ies did you face in doing your part? Why?

- How did you deal with the difficulty/ies? Were you successful? Explain.

- How well do you think you did in this part of the task? Explain.

- What will you do differently next time? Why?

- What insights did you gain from the assignment? Explain.

7. Submit the group's output along with the individual reflective essays which shall be compiled in a short folder.

8. The deadline of submission shall be on August 10, 2018.

Evaluation

This is how I am going to grade your output:

60 % - Group Output (Please see the Travel Brochure Rubric, p. 50 of your Learner's Material in English for Grade 10.

20 % - Peer Assessment (Every member of the group will rate all the other member's performance                        of the role assigned to each.)

20 % - Individual Reflective Essays

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed working as a group. The raves (and rants) you have had while accomplishing this task simply add to the spirit of teamwork in your group.
