In this lesson, you will have 30 minutes to practice problem-solving skills by learning how to use the commutative method to understand

one of the four number properties. You will learn to collaborate with group members and use critical thinking skills when putting together

your presentation using media technology from your choice of Photoshop.

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Recall and define what is commutative number property and the  'addition' names in a sentence.
  • Demonstrate the use of technology in putting the commutative number property and the use of each part of the addends.
  • Collaborate with other classmates to put the assignment's components together for a presentation.
Task

 

                                                                                 Jellybean Math

I have faith in you all to apply and obey the task assigned to you as you collaborate and present your final assignment. To teach this

property, you can make a photoshop of your choice. You must define the property and ensure that students understand the use of

methods and the parts of an addition sentence.

For this activity, we must figure out how to write an addition sentence and insert the values of how many jelly beans were counted using

the commutative number property method. This activity will be used to develop the first addend concept by counting what is in the first

three packs of jelly beans. The concept of the second addend will be the sum of what is in the fourth pack. The total bean objects will be

added to solve the sum of the addition. These steps will be recorded with a digital camera or mobile device of each team member

collecting and adding jellybeans to create the concept of addends solving to find the sum. Images will then be imported into a digital

painting or photoshop.

I'll assign specific roles to each child. I will assign roles in order to distribute responsibility and provide all students with a sense of involvement and purpose.

These roles are as follows:

1. Leader: responsible for overseeing everything, supporting the team, ensuring that everything runs smoothly, and photographing each team member's steps.

 

2. Checker: they will ensure that everything is calculated correctly and placed in the correct location.

 

3. Reporter: will record what the checker repeats after counting the variables.

 

4. Material Person: Will bring all necessary materials and equipment for the assignment.

  • The teacher will have prepared four packs of any of the following jelly beans, cheers, ping-pong or peanut gems, etc., for students to bring to class.

 

  • The teacher will divide the students into five groups of four.

 

  • The teacher will provide two trays for each group.

 

  • Students will be asked to empty three packs in one tray and fourth packs in another.

 

  • The first addend concept will be developed using what is thrown from the first three packs.

 

  • The concept of the second addend will be the sum of what is in the fourth pack.

 

  • The teacher will inform students that they will be grouping these items and using critical thinking to solve them, as well as writing the correct numeral addend in the appropriate place when creating the number property.

 

  • Students from each group must be able to correctly write the commutative sentence.
