Introduction
In this WebQuest we will be studying about the rise of the Gandhian Phase in the freedom movement, with special emphasis on the philosophy of Satyagraha and the satyagraha's started by Mahatma Gandhi.
Watch the following video and note down the key issues presented in it.
Task
As we have just seen in the previous video, Mahatma Gandhi was a victim of the cruel system of racism which was strongly practiced by the British in their colonies.
Under this system, the British segregated the blacks from the whites, which at the same time imposed several restrictions on the people including the denial of basic rights and the sufferers of the oppressive policies imposed by the British who were their colonizers.
TASK 1: Understand the meaning of... What is Racism?
TASK 2: What does Satyagraha Mean?

Conclusion
Just like Mahatma Gandhi, who pioneered a non-violent approach to the freedom struggle in India similarly Dr Martin Luther King Jr encouraged the people to use non violence as means it put forward their demands in the American Civil Rights Movement.
He said,
"Through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder murder. Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can't establish truth. Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can't murder hate. Darkness cannot put out darkness. Only light can do that."
From this quote we learn that violence is not the only solution to our problems. Always remember students, violence can never ease tensions or solve problems instead it will only worsen the situation and create even bigger problems. Rather dealing with the problems or the situation with a calm mind and a peaceful approach can instead help you arrive at a perfect and meaningful result.
