Introduction
You are watching your favourite movie and all of a sudden the power is out. No more TV, no more video games, no more food cooked on a stove, no more light in your living room at night.... What do you do? You find out what the problem is: The Earth has had it! It will not put up with the use of fossil fuels anymore! The Earth will not give us any fossil fuels - we ran out!!
Task
At school, you have learned about renewable and non-renewable natural resources and you quickly get an idea! Let's research a cleaner and non-ending way of producing energy! This will help the earth and get our electricity back. You will research a renewable energy resource and present it to the Government of Canada (the class). Your job is to convince them that this resource is the best solution. Good luck!
Process
1. Choose a renewable energy resource
2. Use the websites provided to find information about the following:
- Why did you choose to research this energy resource?
- What is 'Energy'? (Define the word)
- Study Global Warning here
- Explain the history behind your resource - when did we begin to use it? Can you find out who came up with the idea?
- Give a description of your energy resource:
- WHAT is used to produce energy (e.g. solar energy uses the sun to produce energy)
- HOW does it produce energy (e.g. the wind mills - how does the wind help turn the turbine that will run the generator)
- Pros and Cons of using this resource
- How can we conserve this resource
- How will it make the Earth a cleaner place to live compared to using fossil fuels?
3. Create a detailed drawing of how your resource produces energy OR build a model, e.g. build a model of a wind mill (you choose the materials). You can find ideas on Youtube.
4. Present your information using Glogster or make a poster (can be 'science fair style'). Must include a title, subtitles, and bibliography. Make sure it is interesting and organized.
5. You will present your research and your model to the class.

Conclusion
The world will now be a better and cleaner place because of your work. The Government is greatful that you have researched alternative energy. With renewable energy sources you don't have to worry about the world losing for example electricity in the middle of your favourite movie. Isn't that nice :-)
