Introduction
What is SMART Notebook?
SMART Notebook is a interactive software that allows educators to create high-impact lessons that bring learning to life. With a rich set of design and delivery features and a multitude of digital resources, SMART Notebook software connects you to a full ecosystem of content, tools and support that compliments the use of your SMART Board.
Task
In this WebQuest you will learn the Smart Notebook 11 software interface. Your task will be to explore the Gallery Essentials and how to find the necessart tools and buttons to create your own interactive multimedia activities.
Process
Part 1 (7 min)
Simply watch the video of the layout and options in the tool bar found in Notebook 11. This is the basics and essentials to get you started.

You are now ready watch the second part of the tutorial that will show you more features the power of this software.

Part 3 - Download the working file
Your laptop or workstation has the Smart Notebook 11 software already installed on it. Without this installation you not be able to open any notebook files. Saved Notebook files have the extension ".notebook".
You will need to click here to download the "Beginner Tutorial" notebook file required to continue working on the tasks. When prompted, select to open the file.
Part 4 - Activity
- After opening the notebook file, follow the directions as stated in slides 1 through 30. These are short and simple activities to help you better recognize and undertand the layout and tools in Notebook.
- Once you have finished slide 30, insert a new slide (31).
- Copy a picture from the Internet of your favourite brand of coffee, paste it into slide 31, and add some text to say why you like it so much! :)
- Insert a new slide (32)
- Insert of video clip of your favourite song (youtube has a great selection to choose from) into slide 32. Add the some text above the video indicating the song title, then add a screen shade over the video only.
- Insert a new slide (33)
- Insert any math or measurement tool into slide 33. Add a suitable question that can be solved using only the tool you hav selected.
- Save the notebook in your H: drive or to your USB.
- Open you email (web-based or via Outlook) and attach your completed notebook file in an email to me: bitontid@npsc.ca

Conclusion
Smart Notebook, when used in conjuction with the Smart Interactive whiteboard is a very powerful teaching tool. Your lessons become alive, more engaging, and hook your students in a way that chart paper and reading from a text book only can't. You are now on your way to bring life to you lessons by using Notebook as your teaching aid!
