reading...... How does reading makes a full man?

Introduction

Reading is part of our life, whether we like it or not, certainly, we read everyday. From the time we wake up in the morning, do our morning rituals, and go out of home for a work or a trip, we cannot deny that we read even simple notes, signages, tasks and the like. So, reading itself is really important. What do you think will happen to a man who do not know how to read or cannot even recognize letters or words? This webquest will lead you to the world of reading...

Task

Your job is to explore the world of reading through researches in the web, encyclopedias, books, and other reading materials that will help you to:

  • define what reading is;
  • enumerate or illustrate the importance or significance of reading;
  • discuss the relationship between reading and finding a good job.

After your research, you will make a presentation (a video presentation/power point presentation) about your output. You will also submit a lesson plan on how you will facilitate reading lesson to a group of primary pupils you will form later.

Process

Make a group of five. Each group will do the following:

  • Choose a leader and scribe of the group. You will document everything including time, place you meet to discuss the task;
  • Make a research on the different experts (e.g. Francis Bacon, Albert Einstein, Frank Smith, Diane Henry Leipzig, Kenneth Goodman, etc.) who say about the complexity of reading. Likewise, read some articles on reading. Know the different author of a material you read and  take note of what they say about reading. Briefly discuss it among your group. Each member is expected to contribute ideas or opinions regarding what you read. Then answer the following questions:
  1. What do they say about reading?
  2. Make your own definition of reading. How does it compares with the experts?
  3. Why reading is indispensable?
  4. What is the importance of reading?
  5. Does reading effectively involved a process? Why and what it is?
  • You can open the following link, but then again you need to research further:

Make a video/presentation on the different ideas you were able to research. Report it in the class on the scheduled date of presentation.

Evaluation

Now that you know that reading is really an essential part of our daily life, you have to make a concept map about how reading make a full man.

Too, finish the phrase below:

       The more you read .........

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

Conclusion

We read not just to entertain ourselves, we read in order for our knowledge to become rich. We cannot have all those information if we do not read.

In doing so, we need also to share our skills with others. We need to convince people that it is wonderful to be with the world of reading. Using the video below, make a lesson plan for a grade school group of pupils stressing therein the importance of reading.
