How to make the Grave Digger's Handbook from The Book Thief

Introduction

I made this to show how to make The Gravedigger's Handbook off of The Book Thief .  As you may know, while Leisel is at her brother's gravesit she picks up a Gravedigger's Handbook and takes it to her new home in Germany.

Task

Students are going to work on making the Gravedigger's handbook. Leisel found it in the snow and the students ar recreating it, it is important to the story, because that begins her book stealing habit.

You'll need:

1. hole puncher

2. 4 sheets of construction paper

3. ribbon or string

Process

1. First take any color construction paper. Fold it in half.

2. Take a hole puncher and punch 3 holes while it is folded.

3. Grab 3 more sheets of a different color construction paper and fold them in half.

4. Hole punch 3 holes in the same places as the first piece of paper.

5. Line up the holes on the paper.

6. Measure out pieces of string that are 9" and tie a bow in each hole.

7. Write Gravedigger's handbook on the cover and fill in the empty sheets with whatever you want.

Evaluation

If it looks kind of like this, but with three holes then you should be fine.

Conclusion
