Introduction
Hey Social students!
Welcome to the Understandings of Internationalism WEBQUEST.
The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to research some international organizations and to find out what their purposes are, what motivates them and so on.
You will be using the next hour and a half to research TWO different international organizations. With the information you find, I would like you to write a letter. It could be a letter to your grandma, to your girlfriend, to your cousin, etc. As long as you write a letter using the criteria I give you!

This isn't a hard assignment, but you are requried to complete it by the end of class!

Task
YOUR TASK:
I am provided you with a number of international organizations, along with their information.
It is your responsibility to research information for TWO of the given organizations.
1. World Bank Organization: The World Bank is a United Nations international financial institution that provides loans to developing countries for capital programs.
2. International Monetary Fund: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an organization of 188 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.
3. International Working Group on Indigenous Affairs: IWGIA was founded in 1968 by anthropologists alarmed about the ongoing genocide on indigenous peoples taking place in the Amazon. The aim was to establish a network of concerned researchers and human right activists to document the situation of indigenous peoples and advocate for an improvement of their rights. Today indigenous peoples from all over the world are involved in IWGIA's global network.
4. Red Cross: The International Committee of the Red Cross is a humanitarian institution
5. Doctors Without Borders: Provides medical aid where it is needed most.
6. The United Nations: The United Nations are committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.
For each one you choose, you will are asked to write a letter to somebody. It could be someone in your life, it could be a famous movie star or basketball player. But your letter must answer the following questions:
- What organization are you writing about?
- What is the purpose behind the organization?
- What are the motivations behind each organization? What are the motivations of nations and nation-states involved?
- How would nations and nation-states benefit from participating with these organizations?
- Why would you choose to become involved with this organization? Why not?

Evaluation
INDIVIDUALLY answer the following questions in your letter to the editor:
- What are the motivations behind each organization? What are the motivations of nations and nation-states involved?
- How would nations and nation-states benefit from participating with these organizations?
- Should internationalsim be promoted through the organizations? Why or why not?
- Why would you choose to become involved with this organization? Why not?

When you have finished collecting your information, you will be required to write your letter to the editor individually.
