Introduction
Welcome to our Classroom Celebration WebQuest! We have been working incredibly hard in our functional academic classes. To celebrate our success, I am going to let you plan a special classroom celebration meal!
Before we can eat, we need to become smart shoppers. We have a strict budget, and we need to make sure our food choices are both healthy and delicious. You are going to use the internet to explore real store items, pick our menu, and calculate the costs. Letβs get ready to plan our party!
Task
Your job is to work with a partner to design a menu for our party. You will have a virtual budget of $30 to spend.
By the end of this assignment, you and your partner will use Google Slides to show me:
- A list of 3 healthy food items you want to buy.
- The exact price of each item from a real store website.
- The total cost of your meal to prove you stayed under $30.
Process
Please follow these steps with your partner to complete your project. Take your time and use your visual timer if you need help tracking your minutes!
- Step 1: Click on the online store links below to look for food items.
- Step 2: Pick 3 food items that you think are healthy choices for our classroom.
- Step 3: Write down the price of each item on a piece of paper.
- Step 4: Add the three numbers together. If your total number is bigger than $30, you must take an item away and pick something cheaper.
- Step 5: Open a new Google Slides presentation. On slide one, type your names. On slide two, add pictures or names of your 3 food items and type the total cost.
Evaluation
I will use this simple rubric to look at your final Google Slides project:
| Skill | π Great Job (3 points) | π Getting There (2 points) | π Needs Work (1 point) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teamwork | We worked safely together and shared the laptop nicely. | We worked together but needed an adult to help us share. | We had trouble sharing the laptop or working together. |
| The Menu | We found exactly 3 healthy items from the online store links. | We found 1 or 2 items, or the items were not healthy choices. | We did not find any food items on the website. |
| The Budget | Our total cost is under $30, and we showed our math. | Our total cost is under $30, but we forgot to show the math. | We went over our $30 budget. |
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have completed your WebQuest. You just learned how to use internet search tools to find real items, compare prices, and balance a budget. These are amazing skills that help you become independent shoppers in the real world.
When everyone is finished, I will look over all of our menus, and we will vote on which budget plan we will use to buy the food for our real classroom celebration!
