Operation: Digital Detectives – Saving the School Computer Lab (Grade 7 TLE-ICT)

Introduction

Attention, Junior Tech Squad!

A giant digital mess has hit our school's computer lab! Devices are slowing down, weird pop-up messages are appearing on screens, and some student computer cables have been mixed up. The school needs an elite team of Grade 7 Digital Detectives to step in. Your mission is to investigate how to properly care for our computer hardware, map out a safe lab setup, and create a checklist to protect our files from internet threats. Are you ready to save our digital space?

Task

Working in a team of 3 tech detectives, you will investigate our school computer lab's needs. Together, your team will create a colorful "Computer Lab Safety & Care Guide" (using a presentation, document, or digital poster) that shows:

  • 3 Basic Rules for taking care of physical computer parts (hardware).

  • A Simple Lab Map showing where to safely place computers, mice, and keyboards.

  • 3 Cyber-Safety Rules to protect your personal information when using the internet.

Process

Follow these steps to complete your mission:

  • Step 1 - Choose Your Tech Role: Form a group of three. Each person picks one job:

    1. The Hardware Caretaker: Investigates how to clean, handle, and protect physical computer parts.

    2. The Lab Designer: Investigates how to safely arrange computer desks and plug in parts without breaking them.

    3. The Cyber Defender: Investigates how to stay safe from internet viruses, bad links, and stranger danger online.

  • Step 2 - Gather Your Clues: Click on the helpful links in the Resources section to read easy tips on basic computer maintenance and internet safety.

  • Step 3 - Share Your Notes: Talk with your teammates and write down your top tips on a scratchpad paper or a shared document.

  • Step 4 - Create the Guide: Put your tips and sketches together using a tool like Google Slides, MS PowerPoint, or Canva. Use large fonts, bullet points, and neat pictures so 7th graders can read it easily.

  • Step 5 - Report to the Class: Share your final guide with your teacher and classmates to prove you have earned your Junior Tech Squad badge!

Evaluation

  • Computer Care Tips (4 Points Max)
    • 4 Points (Excellent): Gives 3 perfect, highly helpful rules for cleaning and handling hardware safely.
    • 3 Points (Satisfactory): Gives 2–3 rules, but some are slightly unclear or too simple.
    • 2 Points (Needs Improvement): Rules are missing or do not relate to physical computer care.
  • Cyber-Safety Rules (4 Points Max)
    • 4 Points (Excellent): Explains exactly how to stay safe from online threats with clear examples.
    • 3 Points (Satisfactory): Gives basic safety rules but lacks detail or everyday examples.
    • 2 Points (Needs Improvement): Rules are absent, confusing, or unsafe for Grade 7 students.
  • Teamwork & Presentation (4 Points Max)
    • 4 Points (Excellent): The guide is creatively designed, neatly organized, and all 3 roles contributed equally.
    • 3 Points (Satisfactory): The guide is complete but looks cluttered, or the group roles were uneven.
    • 2 Points (Needs Improvement): The group did not work together well, or the final project is incomplete.

Conclusion

Mission Accomplished! The Lab is Safe.
