Introduction

Attention, Eco-Detectives! A local ecosystem is in trouble. Human activity, habitat loss, and climate change are pushing several native species toward extinction, disrupting the entire food web. The local government has called upon your team of environmental scientists to investigate the cause of this crisis and present an action plan to save the habitat before it’s too late. Are you ready to protect our planet?

Task

Your team’s task is to create an "Ecosystem Recovery Proposal" (a presentation or digital poster) that explains why a specific ecosystem is dying and how we can save it.

Your final proposal must include:

  • An overview of the chosen ecosystem and its food web.
  • The main threats causing species to become endangered.
  • A 3-step action plan to restore the balance in the ecosystem.

Process

Work in groups of 3. Each member will take on one specialized role:

  1. The Ecologist: Researches the native plants, animals, and food web connections.
  2. The Environmental Threat Specialist: Investigates human impacts (pollution, deforestation, invasive species).
  3. The Conservation Planner: Designs practical solutions and protection rules for the habitat.

    Steps to Follow:

    Step 1: Choose one endangered ecosystem (e.g., Coral Reefs, Tropical Rainforests, or Local Wetlands).

    Step 2: Research your role using the websites listed in the Resources section.

    Step 3: Meet with your team to combine your research into a clear presentation (using Google Slides or Canva).
