Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems in the world today. Every day, tons of plastic waste end up in rivers, oceans, and streets, affecting animals, plants, and human health.
Imagine that you are part of a youth environmental team tasked to help your community reduce plastic waste. Your mission is to investigate the causes of plastic pollution and create an action plan that encourages people to practice proper waste management.

Your group will act as an Environmental Action Team.
By the end of this WebQuest, your group will:
- Research the effects of plastic pollution
- Investigate waste management practices in your community
- Create a digital presentation or poster campaign
- Propose realistic solutions to reduce plastic waste in school and at home
Final Product:

- A 5–7 slide presentation OR infographic/poster
- Three practical solutions for reducing plastic waste

Step 1 – Form Groups
Students will work in groups of 4–5 members.
Step 2 – Learn About Plastic Pollution
Visit the assigned websites and answer the following questions:
- What is plastic pollution?
- How does plastic affect marine life and humans?
- What are the common sources of plastic waste?
Step 3 – Investigate Local Practices
Interview at least 3 people in your community or school.
Ask:
- How do they dispose of plastic waste?
- Do they recycle?
- What problems do they notice in the community?
Record your findings.
Step 4 – Develop Solutions
As a group:
- Brainstorm ways to reduce plastic waste
- Choose the best 3 solutions
- Explain why these solutions are practical
Step 5 – Create Your Presentation
Prepare:
- A digital slideshow, infographic, or poster
- Photos or illustrations
- A summary of your research and recommendations
Step 6 – Present Your Output
Each group will present their work to the class for 5 minutes.
