Introduction
In today's world, many people buy products online because they are cheap, easy to find, and quickly delivered. However, not all products sold online are real. Counterfeit products, also called fake products, are becoming a serious global problem.
Fake products may look similar to genuine precuts, but they can be dangerous. Fake medicine may contain harmful ingredients. Fake electronics can cause fires or explosions. Fake cosmetics may damage people's skin, and fake luxury goods hurt businesses and the economy.
Recently, governments and international organizations have warned people about the increasing dangers of counterfeit goods. Many customers buy fake products without realizing the risks.
Your group has been selected as a special public safety investigation team. Your mission is to investigate the dangers of counterfeit products and create a campaign to educate the public.
During this WebQuest, you will explore real online articles, news reports, and international websites. You will work together to analyze information, discuss possible solutions, and create a public warning campaign.
Task
Your group will investigate the dangers and social effects of counterfeit products.
Each group member will take a different role and research one area of counterfeit goods using online resources provided by the teacher.
During this WebQuest, your group must:
- research different types of fake products,
- analyze the dangers and social impacts of counterfeit goods,
- compare real examples and news reports,
- evaluate reliable online information,
- and discuss possible solutions to reduce counterfeit products.
After completing your research, your group will create:
1. A Public Safety Campaign Poster
Your poster must include:
- at least three dangers of counterfeit products,
- real examples of news cases,
- images or visual materials,
- safety tips for consumers,
- and a clear warning message.
2. A 3-5 Minute Group Presentation
During the presentation, all group members must:
- explain their research findings,
- describe the dangers of counterfeit goods,
- introduce possible solutions,
- and persuade the audience to avoid fake products.
Your group use clear English, creative ideas, and reliable web resources throughout the project.
The goal of this WebQuest is not only to collect information, but also to think critically about the risks and social problems caused by counterfeit products.
Process
Step 1: Form Groups
Form groups of four students.
Each student must choose one role:

While exploring the online resources, you should not simply copy information. Instead, you must:
- identify important facts,
- compare different sources,
- analyze the dangers and social effects,
- and evaluate whether the information is reliable.
Take detailed notes while reading and organize your information for your final campaign project.
Step 3: Share and Analyze Information
After completing your individual research, meet with your group members and share your findings.
During the discussion, your group should:
- explain the information collected from the web resources,
- compare different types of counterfeit products,
- discuss the most serious dangers and social problems,
- analyze why counterfeit products continue to spread,
- and evaluate which online sources were the most reliable.
As a group, decide:
- which information is the most important,
- which real examples or news cases should be included,
- what safety advice should be given to consumers,
- and what message your campaign should deliver to the public.
Take notes during the discussion because the information will be used for:
- your poster,
- your final presentation,
- and your campaign message.

Your poster should:
- explain what counterfeit products are,
- introduce different types of fake products,
- describe at least three dangers of counterfeit goods,
- include one or more real examples or news cases,
- provide safety tips for consumers,
- and include images, warnings, or visual materials to attract attention.
Your poster should be:
- visually organized,
- easy to understand
- and persuasive.
2. A Group Presentation (3-5 Minutes)
During the presentation, all group members must participate in and explain their role's research findings.
Your presentation should include:
- an introduction to counterfeit products,
- explanations of health, technology, fashion, and consumer issues,
- analysis of why people buy fake products,
- discussion of real examples and social impacts,
- and possible solutions to reduce counterfeit goods.
Groups should:
- use clear and accurate English,
- organize information logically,
- and work together to deliver an effective campaign message.
Your goal is to persuade the audience that counterfeit products are dangerous and should not be treated as harmless cheap alternatives.
Step 5: Present and Evaluate
Each group will present its public safety campaign to the class.
During the presentation:
- all group members must participate,
- explain their assigned role's research findings,
- and clearly present the dangers and social effects of counterfeit products.
Group should:
- use visual materials effectively,
- speak clearly and confidently,
- and persuade the audience with reliable information and real examples.
While listening to other groups' presentations, students should:
- take notes on important information,
- compare different types of counterfeit products,
- identity the most serious dangers,
- and evaluate the effectiveness of each campaign.
After all presentations, the class will discuss:
- which counterfeit products are the most dangerous,
- why consumers continue to buy fake goods,
- and what society can do to reduce counterfeit markets.
