Are you really sure you want to trade waking up everyday with a beautiful scenery outside, a peaceful walk by the beach, or inhaling fresh air for stronger typhoons, extreme and scorching heat, flashfloods, food scarcity? I think you have to think twice, because effects of climate change is not a joke nor will be experienced decades in the future because we are already experiencing them. As leaders and simple citizens, it is our shared responsibility to understand what climate change is, what causes it, and how we, people can contribute in our own simple ways to help reduce its effects.

In this activity, you will use your creativity to promote ways on not only to reduce the effects of climate change, and propose solutions that individuals and communities can do to help in protecting the Earth.

Task

Your task it to create an infographic explaining the following:

  1. What is climate change
  2. Human activities that causes climate change
  3. The effects of climate change on both people and the environment
  4. Proposed solutions and actions that students like you and the community can adapt to help in reducing climate change.

It is a group activity, thus, you have to form groups of 5 students.

After the activity, each group will present their outputs to the class and after that, it will be posted on social media platforms like facebook to reach wider audience and promote social and environmental responsibility.

Process

Step 1: Make a research on Climate Change

Read from the provided websites, articles, and videos about climate change. Look for important concepts such as global warning, green house gases, environmental destruction, and climate action.

Step 2: Look for the Causes and Effects

Using the resources provided, read and gather information about:

  • Human activities that significantly contribute to climate change
  • The effects of climate change on people and the environment
  • Climate issues happening in the Philippines that is relevant around the world

Step 3: Brainstorm for Possible Solutions

Brainstorm with your groupmates and list down practical and realistic ways students, families, schools, and communities can contribute in reducing climate change.

Step 4: Create your infographic

You can now create your infographic using your creativity, and all the facts you gathered.

You may use platforms including but not limited to: Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Softwares, and other editing applications available.

Step 5: Present and Share Your Advocacy

After finishing it, you may now present your infographic to the class and explain the advocacy you write on your work. After class, the infographic will be uploaded on your social media platforms like facebook using the hashtag: #ClimateChangeisRealProtectMotherEarth to help in spreading awareness and encourage social and environmental responsibility.

Conclusion

Climate change is a phenomenon that affects every aspect on a global scale. It does not affect only the environment but also the live of the people and any living things on it. By carrying out this activity, students will be able to understand the causes and effects of climate change and acknowledge the importance of individua and shared actions in protecting our planet. Through creativity and technology tools for awareness and advocacy, students does not only act as students but they also act as responsible citizens who inspire others to do the same in able to protect the environment and build a better future for the next generations.
