Global Warming

Introduction

In this WebQuest, you are going to create a scientific magazine entitled "Global Warming: Facts & Fixes" to show the impact of global warming on the Earth and propose solutions to mitigate the effects.

Task

You are a team of environmental chemists who will write a variety of reports based on research to inform and persuade the general audience about the overconsumption of energy leading to global warming and how to take action. 

Process

Step 1 – Research and Collect Information

  • Work in groups of 3.

  • Each student will focus on one category of research:

    • Student A: Causes of global warming (energy use, pollution, deforestation).

    • Student B: Effects of global warming (climate change, melting ice, rising seas).

    • Student C: Solutions and actions (renewable energy, conservation, recycling).

  • Use reliable websites, books, and videos to gather information.

  • Write down at least five key facts and three important vocabulary words for your category.

Step 2 – Summarize and Present

  • Prepare a short summary (100–120 words) of your findings.

  • Include your three vocabulary words in the summary.

  • Present your summary to your group members.

  • As a group, decide on the most important points to include in the magazine.

Step 3 – Write Magazine Articles

  • Each student writes a 200–250 word article for their category.

  • Use clear paragraphs, correct grammar, and your vocabulary words.

  • Add at least one picture, chart, or diagram to illustrate your article.

  • Exchange articles with your group members and give feedback on:

    • Content: Is the article clear and informative?

    • Structure: Are the paragraphs well organized?

    • Language: Is the English correct? Are the vocabulary words used properly?

Step 4 – Edit and Produce the Magazine

  • Put all articles together into one magazine.

  • Decide on:

    • The cover design (title, images, layout).

    • The order of articles.

    • The style (fonts, headings, colors).

  • Print or publish your magazine digitally.

  • Share your magazine with other groups and discuss similarities and differences.
