Introduction
Today you will be exploring our solar system! Since we are beginning to talk about planets, moons, and the sun, it is important to start with the basic understanding of the solar system and the planets are the first place we will be researching.
Today, you will be placed in groups of 3-4 to create a chart of the planets order to present to the whole class.
Knowing the planets names besides Earth is important to know and understand before we can explore moons, as each planet has different moons.
It is important to note the size and color of each planet, as our next project will explore the environments of the planets.
Task
Students will first learn the names of all the planets. Use the websites to explore the solar system and the layout of the planets and why they are in the position they are to the sun.
Students will also explore and note how each planet looks.
Then, students will complete a chart of the correct names and order of the planets, and include a picture of each, to then present to the whole class.
Process
Explore the websites provided IN ORDER, and write notes to identify each planet.
Take note of why the planets are in this specific order, and what each planet looks like.
Complete the short quiz to correctly order the planets before creating the chart. This should be done individually and checked by the teacher before moving on.
*Students will be able to take the quiz until they correctly order the planets.*
Once the quiz is complete, create a chart of the planets in order. Start with the Sun on the far left, and add each planet correctly.

Evaluation
Evaluation based on the number of correct planets in order. Each planet will count as 1 point for accurate name and placement, and 1 point for size/color. 16 points total.
Individual completion of the quiz will count for 6 points.
total points to be earned: 22
Evaluation will be completed as a group for the completed chart, and individually for the planet order quiz.
