La Familia

Introduction

Families are different everywhere, but everyone has stories about their family members, homes, and traditions. In this Quest, you will become a “Reporter” who gathers information, interviews family members, and creates a bilingual family portfolio and a short video presentation that tells a story about a family and their traditions

(real or fictional). You will listen to Spanish audio and songs, practice vocabulary (adjectives, nouns, descriptions, and numbers), and talk about family structures and traditions in Spanish-speaking countries with your own family.

Task

You will create a Family Portfolio and a 2-3-minute Spanish presentation (video with audio) that introduces a family. The portfolio should include: a family tree (with Spanish labels), 5–8 labeled family member profiles

(name, relationship, age, and description in Spanish). One short interview in Spanish with a family member (real or fictional), and a cultural comparison paragraph describing one family tradition from a Spanish-speaking country.

Process

1.    Select a family to interview.

2.    Learn or review family vocabulary.

3.    Create a family tree, labeling at least 8 family relationships in Spanish.

4.    Write a short summary for the assigned family members using nouns and descriptive adjectives.

5.    Research one family tradition from a Spanish-speaking country and prepare a short paragraph in Spanish (3–5 sentences).
