Animal Housing 101

Introduction

You are the head of the agriculture design team and were given the opportunity to redesign the facility layout for our animal pens on campus. You will create a layout and design to fit all the needs of the animal while making sure there are no safety issues. Using online resources, you will research different layout options as well and diffrent high school layouts to build your own layout and design for our new barn. You must include certain things that will be listed in your task.

Task

- Design a layout based on the measurements given in the slides below

- Ensure there will be no safety concerns with the animals

- Have housing conditions for all animals (Sun exposure, climate, fencing)

- Make adjustments based on the species

- Decide if it will be indoor or outdoor housing

Evaluation

Rubric

All species are included in the layout

Step 2: 20 points

Housing location is solid and has all the aspects needed

Step 3:  20 points

Housing materials are safe and appropriate for all animals

Points will be taken away based on the quality of work turned in and graded based on the work turned in.

Conclusion

Through completing this webquest, students will have been able to apply real-world problem-solving skills to design an appropriate layout for different species to be safe to live in. Through doing research to be ablt ot complete and create the layout skills will be used to find reliable online resources as well as get better at using technology.

Questions

1. How did having different space constraints for the different species make it more difficult to build a layout?

2. When deciding what material to use for the housing, did you look into the different prices and what the material was made of? Why or why not?
