Introduction
Good Morning, students!
Have you ever wondered how our favorite sports teams figure out the scores, or how we make sense of numbers and data in our everyday lives? Today, we will use Mean, Median, and Mode to help us make sense of data in the world around us.
Guiging questions:
- How can we use the mean, median, and mode to help us understand data?
- How can we use these tools to make decisions?
- How are each of these tools useful?
Learning Objectives:
- Each student will be able to solve mathematical problems using the mean, median, and mode.
- Students will be able to define the mean, median, and mode.
Task
Work in teams of 3 to find the mean, median, and mode for each mathematical problem for each real-life scenario.
Each group will;
- Identify the mean, median, and mode for each problem.
- Create a poster board with their solution and illustrations.
- Present your poster board with classmates.
- discuss/ answer questions from classmates
Once your group presents the poster board to the class, turn in your assignment to the assignment bin (make sure everyone's name is on the poster board for everybody to get full credit)
Process
1. To find the mean, add up all the numbers and then divide by the amount of numbers added.
ex: 20, 45, 50, 20, 40
20 + 45 + 50 + 20 + 40 = 175/ 5 = 35
2. To find the median, arrange the numbers in order, and the middle number is the median.
ex: 20, 20, 40, 45, 50
20, 20, 40, 45, 50
In this case, once the numbers are arranged in order from smallest to biggest, 40 is the middle number, which means it is the median.
3. To find the mode, we look at all the numbers given to us and identify which number is repeated the most.
ex: 20, 45, 50, 20, 40
In this case, the number repeated most is 20, which is our mode.
Assignment
Last week's weather for the state of Florida is shown below. Identify the mean, median, and mode for last week's weather forecast.

Sunday 80
Make an illustration of what the weather looked like most of the week and draw an activity you like to do when you get to experience that weather (Be Creative).

Every student is responsible for participating in solving the math problems, creating a poster illustration, presenting, and answering questions from the teacher and classmates to get full credit.
Conclusion
During this lesson, students were able to define the mean, median, and mode, and how to use these tools to analyze real-life scenarios.
During this assignment, students got to work together as a team to solve problems and come to a conclusion. They got to use creative ways to express their favorite things to do, and participated in back-and-forth communication between them and their classmates.
