Introduction
Begin by asking students what they think a plant is. Explaining to students what a plant is, why plants are important to us, and the part they play within the ecosystem.
Introduce students to a video or a diagram of the parts of a plant.
Tell students to ask any questions they have about plants.
SC.3.L.14.1: Describing structures in plants and their function in food production, support, water and nutrient transport, and reproduction.
SC.3.L.14.2: Investigate and describe how plants respond to stimuli such as light and gravity.
Task
Students will do a project about different types of plants and their functions. Students will be put in groups and work together to look for different types of plants at school. They will draw, describe the parts of the plant, and give a brief explanation of their function.
Process
Students will be placed in 3 groups. There will be a group leader, observers to find different plants, and data collectors who will be collecting the information. They will be conducting an outside activity in which they have to identify at least 3-4 different types of plants at school.
Students will write a description of the parts of the plants they see. E.g., color, texture, size, etc.
Students will be monitored by me and the teacher assistant as we observe their unique way of completing this task.
After the tasks are completed by students, we will return to the classroom. Students will have two days to put their information together and do a presentation.
After, students will be given a worksheet to identify different plants, parts, and their functions.

WebQuest is an interesting learning activity that is new to me. Though I am still getting used to it, I can see this helping out a lot of future teachers, and it's good for critical thinking and research.
