WORKSHOP SAFETY

Introduction

Imagine stepping into a workshop where sparks fly and machines roar. Would you go in without your helmet or gloves? Of course not!

In this WebQuest, you’ll become a Safety Detective, exploring the world of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — your real-life safety armor. You’ll uncover how each piece protects workers, investigate real cases, and find out what happens when PPE is ignored.

By the end, you’ll see PPE as more than gear — it’s your superhero shield in the workshop! 🦺

Task

Your mission: uncover the secrets of PPE! 🕵️‍♂️

As a team of Safety Detectives, you will:

  1. Identify the main types of PPE and what they protect.

  2. Research how to use and maintain them safely.

  3. Investigate real or simulated accident cases.

  4. Create a short presentation, video, or poster showing correct PPE use.

  5. Summarize key safety tips from OSHA, ISO, or HEART/NSTA.

Your goal? Show that PPE doesn’t just protect — it saves lives.

Process

Welcome to Mission Headquarters! Follow these steps:

  1. Form Your Team: 3–4 members. Assign roles like Investigator, Researcher, Reporter, Designer.

  2. Gather Evidence: Research PPE for the head, eyes, ears, hands, body, and feet. Note their uses and risks if ignored.

  3. Study Case Files: Review real or classroom examples where PPE made a difference. Record your notes.

  4. Solve the Mystery: Create a fun, creative way to teach others about PPE — poster, skit, or video.

  5. Report Back: Present findings to the class and share top safety lessons.

Complete all steps to earn your Safety Detective Badge! 🏅

Evaluation

Your mission report will be graded using this Safety Scorecard:

Criteria 4 - Expert 3 - Skilled 2 - Rookie 1 - Needs Work
Knowledge Clear, detailed info from multiple sources Good understanding Some errors or gaps Limited understanding
Creativity Fun, original, and well-presented Clear and engaging Basic presentation Unclear or incomplete
Teamwork Everyone contributes equally Mostly good teamwork Uneven effort Poor collaboration
Safety Awareness Excellent safety understanding Good awareness Basic ideas only Lacks understanding

Conclusion

🎉 Mission complete, Safety Detectives!

You’ve explored how PPE keeps workers safe and why safety starts with you. Every glove, helmet, and boot has a purpose — and wearing them shows you work smart and proud.

Your mission doesn’t end here — share what you’ve learned and help others stay protected.

Stay sharp. Stay safe. Stay unstoppable. 🧤⚙️
