DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is like the recipe book of life. It contains the instructions that decide your eye color, your hair, and even how tall you'll become! In this WebQuest, you will be a DNA Detective. You'll learn what DNA is made of and how it looks like, how genes pass traits along, and why no two people ,except identical twins, are the same. Ready to crack the code of life? Let's get started!🚀

Task

In this webquest, you will become a scientist yourself, by creating a model and teaching your classmates about the blueprint of life.

Your mission has 3 parts:

  1. Family Traits Chart

    •    Gather information from your family or friends about traits such as dimples, colored eyes, freckles, etc...

    •    Create a colorful chart using information gathered, and indicating which traits are dominant and which are recessive.

    2.    Short Explanation

    •    Write 100–150 words responding to:

"What is DNA and how does it affect traits?"

    3.    Mini Quiz for Classmates

    •    Prepare 3 multiple-choice questions to quiz your classmates on DNA.

Process

Follow these steps carefully:

Task 1: Family Traits Chart

  1. Ask at least 3–5 people (family or friends) whether they have these traits:
    • Dimples
    • Freckles
    • Tongue rolling
    • Widow’s peak hairline
    • Hitchhiker’s thumb
  2. Record the data in a table.
  3. Use colors to highlight dominant vs. recessive traits.
  4. Write 2–3 sentences about which traits are most common in your family/group.

Conclusion

congratulations, DNA Detectives!

You've just decoded the secrets of life by building a DNA model, researching family traits, and creating your own quiz. You've learned that DNA is the blueprint for creating you you, and genes are the instructions that transfer traits from generation to generation.

Think about it: scientists use DNA to solve crimes, trace ancestry, and even design new medications. Who knows? Maybe you will be the scientist who discovers the key to curing diseases or unlocking new genetic mysteries.

Don't quit asking questions, don't quit searching, and remember: your DNA makes you unique and special.
