Budgeting a Class Trip

Introduction

Imagine your class is going on a 3 day trip. Exciting, right? But here’s the challenge you are in charge of the budget! You will need to calculate the costs of transportation, food, lodging, and activities. This WebQuest will help you apply your math skills to a real-life situation: planning a trip while being financially responsible.

Task

Your task is to create a budget plan and expense report for a 3 day class trip within the Philippines. You must calculate the total cost of transportation, lodging, food, and activities, then divide the expenses fairly among all students. The final output will be a presentation (poster, chart, or slideshow) showing your budget plan.

Process

1. Form groups of 4–5 students.

2. Assign group roles: Researcher, Calculator, Designer, and Presenter.

3. Research the estimated costs of: Transportation (bus/van fare, fuel, etc.)

Lodging (hotel, hostel, or homestay rates)

Food (meals per day for each student)

Activities (entrance fees, tours, etc.)

4. Use calculators or spreadsheets to compute the total trip cost.

5. Divide the cost by the number of students to find the amount per student.

6. Create a neat and creative budget presentation using tables, charts, or posters.

7. Present your budget plan to the class.
