Definitions

Behaviorism, also known as behavioral learning theory, is a theoretical perspective in psychology that emphasizes the role of learning and observable behaviors in understanding human and animal actions. Behaviorism is a theory of knowledge that states all behaviors are learned through conditioned interaction with the environment. Thus, behavior is simply a response to environmental stimuli.
Social learning theory acknowledges that people can learn without direct reinforcement or punishment. It recognizes that people can learn from observing others as well as from their own experiences. The theory incorporates cognitive and environmental factors in explaining behavior.
