What's the Difference?

Introduction

Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Cognitive Theory

Whether it's exploring space, the depths of the ocean, or just how to be an artist, everyone has something they would love to learn. What's the one thing you'd just love to learn about and be able to accomplish. If we could understand how we learn there's so much more we could learn. So that brings us to the question: How do we learn? Everyday we learn new things but what's the most effective and reliable way to do it? What enables us to learn as much as we can? And how can we use this knowledge to learn more effectively?

So these factors are what most strongly effects our learning:

Cognitive Psychology (Jean Piaget): People build their learning through and limited by the four stages of development to achieve a goal: sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational.

Behaviorism (B.F. Skinner): Modifying other’s behavior through reinforcement and punishment. Eventually, through these methods, you will cause the extinction of unwanted behaviors.

Social Cognitive theory (Albert Bandura) : Bandura poses that people learn by observing the behaviors of others and adopting them.

Task

You may work alone or in a group up to 3 people large.

Use PowerPoint or a similar tool to create a Power Point covering the three theories. You need to adequately cover each theory and terms and/or stages of each of the theories. All students will be expected to help present the PowerPoint. If you are in a group, presenting must be split between the group. If you don't want to present in front of the class, you may send a video/recording of the PowerPoint presentation instead.

Process

You may use the textbook to find information on the material. Your PowerPoint should be a minimum of 15 slides.

Be sure to have the following slides :

  • Cover Slide with title and names of contributors
  • Table of Contents
  • 3 slides: covering breakdown of EACH theory (and the theorist who created it)
  • 3 slides: how does EACH theory work in people
  • 3 slides: Stages and/or Key Terms of EACH theory
  • 3 slides: An example of EACH theory at work in students
  • Works cited (feel free to use  https://www.citationmachine.net/  for help citing)

(If you feel the need to add additional slide you may but do not exceed 18 slides)

Conclusion

This assignment will allow you to realize how people learn to be able to utilize this in the future and help you learn more effectively. How and where will you use this new found knowledge? Are there ways these theories overlap or connect? Are there other theories you can think of to help you learn more efficiently? Everyday we can use this knowledge to be more efficient communicators and to grow as both students and teachers.
